Just returned from three-day Shurite Bujutsu-Kai All-Curriculum training symposium in Dallas, N.C., at the Ormaza Martial Arts dojo. The symposium schedule focused on three tracks – Shuri Ryu karate, Shurite Ju Jitsu and Baguazhang/Xingyiquan, which was taught by sifu/kyoshi Paul Cote (see attached photo), who was a direct student of Robert Smith, one of the first – if not the first – American accepted into the inner circle of the internal arts in China. Although a number of students and teachers were unable to attend because of Hurricane Helene (we hope all are safe and recover quickly from the devastating storm), the training went well overall as students from as far away as Kansas and Florida came to Ormaza’s beautiful dojo between Charlotte and Gastonia.
Finally, just a reminder: the 2025 Shuri-Te Martial Arts International Conference is scheduled for June 26-29 in Fort Mill, S.C. Go to www.sbkma.com for more information.
